How to Play Baccarat
|
Baccarat is a well
known casino game that many players enjoy. Many
people think that the game of baccarat is for
high rollers but that is not the case. The game
can be enjoyed by anyone who likes to play the
game.
Baccarat was first
created in the fourteen hundreds and there are
many versions of the game available. Players
will find that the most popular version of
baccarat is called North American baccarat or
punto banco.

 |
North American Baccarat
requires no skill or strategic moves for players to
participate. The game is known as a game of chance and
players can enjoy the game online or at a land casino.
We have put together a guide on the game of baccarat
that will explain how the game is played.
How Baccarat is
Setup
Baccarat is a game for multiple
players. One to eight decks of cards are used in the
game. After each bettor places a wager, the dealer will
play out the hands, one designated the Player’s Hand and
the other the Banker’s Hand. No matter how many bettors
are at the table, there is still only one “Player’s”
hand.
Objective of Baccarat
You don’t really “play” Baccarat.
The goal of the game is to place a bet on a winning
hand. Players are looking to bet on the hand that is
closest to nine, whether it is the players hand or the
banker’s. If the banker and the player have a hand of
the same value, the game results in a tie.
Baccarat Card Values
Card values are very important in
the game of baccarat. Players need to know how much each
card is worth so they can understand the value of each
hand played. A 2-9 card is worth the face value. A 10
card is worth zero, a face card is worth zero and an ace
is worth 1.
How to
Play Baccarat
Baccarat is a simple game to learn
once you understand how to play. There are three bets
that can be place: a bet on the player’s hand, a bet on
the banker’s hand or a tie. The player will place their
bet and the dealer will then deal two cards to the
player and the banker. The card values will then be
added up to determine which hand wins. The highest score
possible is a nine and if a hand value is over nine then
the hand will be subtracted by ten. Once the hand values
are determined then the game is over.
Baccarat Game Rules
The game of baccarat has many
rules that are important to hand development during the
game. Below each rule is listed and learning these rules
will help players in game play.
If a player or banker has a hand
with a total of 8 or 9 the hand must stand. Unless there
is a tie in the game the hand closest to nine will win.
A player who has a hand total of 6 or 7 must stand and
the player is not able to take any more cards. When the
player stands the banker will have to deal one more card
if the banker’s cards are five or less. According to the
rules the banker must stand if the total is six or more.
If a player has a hand of five or
below then the player will be dealt a third card. If the
player hits then the banker must follow the rules below:
-The Banker must draw a third card
if the bankers hand totals 0, 1 and 2
-If the bankers hand totals a 3
then the banker must draw if a player’s third card is a
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-9 or 0
-If the banker has a total of 4
then the banker must draw if the player thirds a
2-3-4-5-6-7
-If the banker has a total of 5
then the banker must draw if the player thirds 4-5-6-7
-If the bankers hand totals a 6
then the banker will draw if a player thirds a 4-5-6-7
-If the banker holds a 7 then the
banker must stand
Baccarat Pay Table
Every casino game gives the house
an edge, and the banker’s hand in Baccarat is no
different. One would beg to argue that betting on the
banker hand would always give the player an edge.
Unfortunately, casinos are smarter than that!
A winning bet
on the banker’s hand will cost you a 5% commission (4%
in some casinos). Woops! The house edge goes back to the
casino.
Baccarat payouts are as follows:
Bet on Player: Pays 1 to 1
Bet on Banker: Pays 1 to 1, minus
5% commission.
Bet on Tie: 8 to 1
Note: Betting
on a tie has the worst house edge of all, even with the
high payout considered. It is generally avoided by any
experienced baccarat player.
